Summary of Communication at the IV National Meeting of Educators and Educating Social | Lisbon | Portugal | "In times of crisis, whether Entrepreneur".

English Version

On the 18th of May, at school "Salesians" in Lisbon, held another meeting National Educators and Educating Social.

The program was filled with gorgeous interventions. It could be observed that the Education Social experiencing a diaspora of areas hitherto unexplored. This day was possible to see the future challenges of Social Education and the relationship between it and health advocacy, schools, among others.

My communication with the theme: "In times of crisis, whether entrepreneur"!

In several communications I have made, resorted to entrepreneurship in its broadest sense. However, on this day, I chose to focus attention on Social Entrepreneurship. What is the reason for this choice?
I answer with another question: Who better to undertake socially than Educators and Educating Social?
This is my intuition. These technicians have the technical and scientific knowledge in the context of social work. Working on the ground, along with the problems of the people living them in a particular way. In this perspective, the Social Educator and Educator can create social businesses and social projects, ie, they are entrepreneurs / the Social.

We wondered then: So why the Social Educators and Educators do not become Social Entrepreneurs?
Why the big social entrepreneurs in Portugal have academic training in the fields of management and economics?
Well, my opinion is that knowledge is key.
Forget that phrase that wants to become a maxim gonna study? For what? That does not worth anything ...
Anyway! In my opinion is totally wrong. We live in a knowledge society and have to say this is not important?

I believe that is key. However, knowledge per se is not sufficient. It is imperative that we know how to use knowledge. In the case of Social Educators, to become social entrepreneurs, it is important to have more than motivation. A social enterprise needs a management and other factors. Therefore, I argue that students in undergraduate courses in Social Education should have access to this kind of knowledge, either with curriculum units embedded in its various organizations and rich curriculum, either through other initiatives such as more practical workshops, dialogues with social entrepreneurs, etc..!

It is pertinent that the Social Educators and Educators put their ideas into practice. I'm sure, because I traveled the country from north to south with a Workshop on entrepreneurship to TSES, that potential exists, there will. However, failure to know how to put ideas into practice, as we move from paper to the ground for action. Lack materialize. For this lack of knowledge within an emerging area in vogue in our society: SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP!
